Author buddy Sharla Lovelace has tagged me in a blog hop, which are a lot like those old fashioned chain letters we all used to get when we were young. Those always made me nervous that I’d get jinxed or cursed, but this is all in good fun. No jinxes, I promise! Instead, I’m giving away two print or digital copies of one of my books—your choice. After I answer a few questions about my writing, I’m tagging another very talented author with a link for you to click on to go check out their answers to the same questions.
Let’s get this party started!
1.) What am I working on/writing?
I just turned in a book at the end of May, so June is a transition month for me. I’m working up a few different proposals for future projects, all of which happen to feature cowboys (and that’s all I’m going to tell you for now!) In July, I’m starting work on a Harlequin Romantic Suspense featuring the popular Colton family. That book is slated to release in July 2015.
2.) How does my work/writing differ from others in its genre?
There are so many wonderful contemporary romances and romantic suspense books out there! What makes my books unique is my special brand of quirky heroines, extra yummy blue collar heroes, super sexy scenes, and a very fast paced story. My favorite thing to hear is that readers stayed up all night to finish my book because they couldn’t find a good stopping place. I love that!
3.) How does my writing process work?
My writing process varies from project to project, but they usually all begin with me doing a lot of staring off into space or taking long, rambling walks while I start to imagine the hero and heroine into fully-formed, realistic people. I think about their pasts and why they chose their careers. I think about what they’re afraid of and how they can help each other grow as people. Once I get to that point, I usually work backwards to figure out where their story needs to start in order to end up the way I want it to. Somewhere around that time, inspiration usually hits for one scene or another and I race to my computer and feverishly start typing.
One thing that might surprise readers is that I don’t write books linearly, starting at chapter one and writing the scenes in a straight timeline. I jump around a lot, writing whichever scene I’m inspired to on any given day. Miraculously, the books always come together in the end.
In my book The Trouble with Cowboys, I wrote the church scene in Chapter Three first, then jumped to the hero and heroine’s first date. I can’t remember when I wrote the first chapter of that book, but I know it was after I’d written the ending. In my upcoming Harlequin Romantic Suspense, Hot on the Hunt, I wrote a very late scene in the book first in which the hero is trying to convince the heroine of his innocence. After that, I built on the story in both directions until I’d reached the beginning and end.
Time for my giveaway! Enter to win one of two print or digital copies of any of these titles of mine:
4.) Who’s up next? Coming up next in the blog hop is Pamela Moran, a super talented friend of mine who writes her own unique brand of paranormal books. Here’s a little more about Pam:
Whether painting, out on a photo shoot or writing, Pam has always had a bend toward the creative side of life. Her favorite is when she can combine any of those with travel. Places get into her blood and she loves to explore the possibilities, always with characters and a story in mind.
An astrologer for most of her adult life, Pam has been known to see auras & the occasional ghost. Considering she lives in a haunted house in the mountains of southern California, this keeps life interesting.
